Gut Health & Hormone Balance

Frequently clients say, "Meg, my hormones feel so out of balance." I respond by asking, "What's going on with your gut?"

When women reach out for my help — whether they’re here in Atlanta or across the country — that’s how nearly every conversation begins. They’re struggling with mood swings, fatigue, weight changes, or hot flashes, but as we talk, a deeper pattern always emerges: underlying gut issues.
Constant gas and bloating, constipation or loose stools, heartburn, and exhaustion — these are the quiet signals that your gut and hormones are out of balance.

It may be time to consider The Gut–Hormone Reset Program.
A healthy gut is essential for balanced hormones — influencing everything from your menstrual cycle and ovulation to your transition through perimenopause and menopause. Your gut microbiome also plays a vital role in hormone regulation, detoxification, and metabolic health.

Many women don’t realize that hidden digestive imbalances — low stomach acid, sluggish bile flow, SIBO, candida, parasites, or celiac disease — can keep your body in a state of inflammation and hormonal chaos.

When the gut lining becomes compromised (a condition known as leaky gut), toxins and bacteria slip into the bloodstream, triggering immune and hormonal responses that can lead to PMS, infertility, PCOS, fibroids, or even debilitating hot flashes and night sweats.

I'm a Women's Gut Health Expert!
I focus on holistic, root-cause healing.
I don't chase symptoms, I meet them head-on so you can move forward with you life.

Gut Matters: You Can't Balance Your Hormones Without Fixing Your Gut

Your gut and hormones are in constant communication every day, every hour, with every meal. When that communication breaks down, everything can feel off.

Most women I work with are living with some degree of dysbiosis, an imbalance of good and bad gut bacteria, or leaky gut, where the intestinal lining becomes more permeable. Both conditions drive inflammation, disrupt hormone signaling, and can keep your body stuck in a cycle of fatigue, mood changes, sugar cravings, and feeling like you’re on a hormonal rollercoaster.

Your gut microbiome is a living, breathing ecosystem of trillions of bacteria, fungi, and viruses that influence far more than digestion. It supports immunity, fertility, metabolism, detoxification, and hormone regulation. Your microbiome also helps convert thyroid hormone T4 into its active form T3 and produces neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and GABA — the chemistry of joy, motivation, and calm.

When your gut is compromised, inflammation rises, detoxification becomes sluggish, and hormones fall out of sync—you may notice the following:

• Bloating, constipation, or IBS
• PMS, irregular cycles, or hot flashes
• Fatigue that coffee can’t touch
• Mood swings, anxiety, or brain fog
• Weight that refuses to budge

These symptoms aren’t random.  They’re signals from your body pointing straight to your gut.

Dysbiosis and leaky gut syndrome
can do funky things to your gut, hormones, mood and why you may feel like you're
spinning your wheels.

Dysbiosis and Women’s Hormonal Health

When dysbiosis develops, whether from stress, poor diet, antibiotics, constipation, or toxin exposure, it disrupts communication between your gut and hormones. This imbalance fuels inflammation, interferes with estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone metabolism, and can contribute to insulin resistance, elevated cholesterol, autoimmune flare-ups, anxiety, depression, and a heightened stress response.

The Estrobolome: Your Gut-Estrogen Connection—The estrobolome is the collection of genes within your gut microbiome that metabolize and eliminate estrogen. When dysbiosis develops from factors such as poor diet, stress, antibiotics, constipation, mycotoxins, or food poisoning, this system becomes impaired.

As a result, leading to elevated levels of beta-glucuronidase, an enzyme produced by bad bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. This enzyme prevents estrogen from being properly excreted through the bowels, allowing it to recirculate into the bloodstream. This is why it’s important for women to have 2-3 daily bowel movement to ensure hormones are eliminated effectively— supporting gut and hormone balance.

When estrogen begins to recirculate, the body experiences estrogen dominance, where estrogen levels become disproportionately high compared to progesterone. This imbalance can trigger a cascade of symptoms and conditions, including:

• Irregular or heavy menstrual cycles
• PMS, PMDD, or mood swings
• Breast tenderness and bloating
• Fibroids, ovarian cysts, or endometriosis
• Weight gain or water retention
• Low libido and fatigue

Leaky Gut In Women: The Hidden Link Behind Hormones & Autoimmune Disorders

Leaky gut occurs when the lining of the small intestine becomes damaged and more permeable. This allows bacteria, toxins, and undigested food particles to enter the bloodstream, triggering inflammation and immune activation that can disrupt hormone balance and increase risk for autoimmune  disorders.

When the gut lining becomes compromised, detoxification slows, inflammation rises, and the body begins to store more toxins and excess hormones. This can interfere with thyroid function, increase stress hormones,  drive PMS, PCOS and Lupus, including:

• Fatigue and brain fog
• Anxiety or mood swings
• Skin issues including acne or eczema
• Weight gain or sugar cravings

Because nearly 70% of the immune system resides in the gut, a compromised intestinal lining can have far-reaching effects. Supporting gut repair is essential for stabilizing hormones, improving energy, and reducing inflammation at its source.

When the gut barrier is strong, your body can detoxify efficiently, regulate hormones, and maintain steady mood, metabolism, and vitality.
